You can start homeschooling whenever you want. You can withdraw your child at any time during the school year, you don't have to wait for approval to do so.
Deadlines and documents to provide vary if you start homeschooling at the beginning of the school year or in its midst. We explain below what changes if you decide to homeschool during the school year.

You must send your written notice to the DEM and the school service centre within 10 days of withdrawing your child from school.
The learning project must be submitted within 30 days of withdrawing your child from school.
You must submit a status and a mid-term report between the 3rd and the 5th month following the implementation of your learning project, except:
You must submit a completion report on or before June 15th. If you have withdrawn your child from school between January 1st and March 31st, you may also include your status report to your completion report.
For severely handicapped children, contact the Direction de l’enseignement à la maison (DEM) and submit to your resource person a list of all of your children’s diagnoses as soon as possible

The DEM suggested to many families with a child showing signs of cognitive impairment (or a suspected one, even if mild) that they follow the CASP Education Program. This program should offer more adjustments for these children. It is not mandatory to accept the program. Furthermore, you can change from CASP Program to a regular program whenever you want to.
